National Mayors and Communities Organizing in New Orleans to Reduce Black Male Violence
Last week I mentioned a meeting that would be taking place this week, featuring mayors and teams from across the country who are committed to eliminating the huge and disparate rates of violent deaths among African American males.
Today, I'm excited to join approximately 300 others to begin this inaugural convening of Cities United. Over 30 mayors and teams from all over the country are here in New Orleans to learn, reflect and strategize toward solutions. More to come as the week progresses.
In the meantime, see the 2013 remarks from Mayors Nutter (Philadelphia) and Landrieu (New Orleans), highlighting the urgency of this work, and the Cities United movement.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter will address the National Press Club at a luncheon September 26. The big city leaders will discuss their campaign to cut the nation's murder rates, reduce gun violence and address other issues affecting the urban community.
